Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) Chairman Kamal Thapa has warned that two armed forces—Nepal Army (NA) and UCPN (Maoist)—were likely to capture the state power after May 27 if the political parties do not get serious on the contentious issues. He added that Nepali people would suffer the most in such power struggle.
“New constitution is impossible by May 27,” Thapa said speaking at a press conference in Itahari on Sunday. “Capture of state power either by NA or Maoist is likely after that,” he added.
Thapa said political parties were committing a serious mistake by not striving towards the drafting of the new constitution. “Nepal was never in a critical condition like this before,” Thapa said. “Maoist, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML should take the responsibility for all this.”
Saying that his party was for the promulgation of timely statute within stipulated time frame, Thapa remarked, “Big parties are reluctant to draft the new constitution.”
On the occasion, Thapa went on to complain that the present government was concentrating on promoting corruption rather than the issues of constitution drafting. He also blamed the government of institutionalising criminal activities by withdrawing the 367 criminal cases.
“Common people are pessimist after the government withdrawal of the criminal charges,” Thapa said. He also maintained that it was a matter of disgrace for the Maoist to embrace anarchy despite being at the helm of the government.
