Big three agreen on ...

KATHMANDU: The top leaders of major three parties –UCPN-Maoist, NepaliCongress and CPN-UML – on Saturday forged an understanding on all four outstanding issues related to the peace process including army integration in order to conclude to the ongoing processes.
They held a meeting at the prime minister's official residence in Baluwatar, prior to the meeting of Special Committee.
According to Nepali Congress leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula, the meeting discussed the recommendations made by the four-member taskforce set up by the Special Committee, and decided to take them up.
The Special Committee meeting that followed the top leaders’ meeting will make the formal decisions regarding the structure and leadership of purported General Directorate, rank harmonisation of the PLA inductees, and formation of the selection committee for army integration.
According to the understanding made today, a lieutenant general will lead the General Directorate, and the rank of PLA inductees will be fixed on a par with the seven-point agreement and as per the Nepali Army’s existing norms and standards.
Also, the selection committee will be three-member. The chairman of Public Service Commission or the person he appoints will head the committee, while a representative of the Nepali Army and a Special Committee member will be its members.
