Loktantra Divas today; Tundikhel cold‚bizarre

KATHMANDU: Loktantra Divas is being observed on Monday across the country to commemorate the day when monarchy fell in 2006 and parliament was reinstated in the country.
The country has been marking the Loktantra Divas on April 24 every year to honour the day when then king Gyanendra abdicated the throne and reinstated the dissolved House of Representatives.
The government has declared a public holiday for the day to celebrate the 6th anniversary of the reinstatement of democracy in the country.
Though government has not unveiled any formal programmes on the occasion, several parties and organisations are all set to organise eventsto mark the day.
In the past years, Loktantra Divas was observed by officially organising a military parade by the Nepal Army at Tundikhel to mark the day under the attendance of President, Prime Minister and various other dignitaries.
Like on the occasion of the 62nd Democracy Day, Tundikhel is going to cold and bizarre once again.
In his Loktantra Day message, Nepali Congress President Shushil Koirala said the day reminds the people of victory of democracy over autocracy. He called on parties to build a consensus to promulgate the constitution.
