Jajarkot District Education Office (DEO) has taken action against 120 teachers for being absent from their duty without prior information.
The DEO, which mobilised four teams to inspect 150 schools in the district from April 13 to 26, had found the teachers of all levels (secondary, lower secondary and primary) to have been absent from their work without prior information.
District Education Officer Girman Thapa, who led one of the inspection teams, said that the teachers were punished by deducting money from their salary of up to one and a half months each.
Likewise, the DEO suspended two teachers for using proxy teachers. “The inspection is aimed at ensuring quality education and compulsory and regular attendance of teachers at schools right from the beginning of the new academic session,” said Thapa. He said that the inspection has been intensified following the complaint of low quality of education mainly due to halt of classes. He also said classes in the schools have been regular and about 90 percent of students in the district are provided with text books as a result of the inspection.
The DEO has also planned to inspect the remaining 278 schools within mid July.
